23Dec 2009 Luke 2:39

39 When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth.

Sometimes we take for granted having a stable home. Those in the military know what it means to move. They move every couple of years and they don’t get to choose where! And then they spend a lot of time away from home even when they aren’t deployed. The military is about training, and most of the training takes time away from family. Most civilians have no idea how difficult it is to try and maintain a family and stay in the military. The Army is especially difficult on families. Joseph and Mary have traveled away from their hometown at a very difficult time. She has given birth to Jesus while they were away from home. Now they travel back home to settle down. But before they travel home they make sure they are obedient to the Law of the Lord. (Just for your information, my daughter is in labor as I type. Sorry for the delay in sending this!) I am sure they felt relief as they saw the outskirts of Nazareth. Then they were home!
