5 When Silas and Timothy came from Macedonia, Paul devoted himself exclusively to preaching, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.
In contrast to yesterday’s passage, today, Paul stops working his tent making job and receives support from Silas and Timothy. He spends all his time preaching and teaching. This of course is paid for by the work of Silas and Timothy. We can have the privilege that Silas and Timothy had in our lives today. We can support those around the world who are sharing the message of hope that is found in Jesus. We can do it with the click of a mouse and a few keystrokes. We can share the fruit of our labor so that others can focus on sharing the Gospel. What an age to live in! We might be helping someone like Paul. Our efforts make it possible for them to focus on the ministry of sharing the Word. We might purchase a copy of the Scriptures for a family that has no written Bible. It might be the only copy for a whole town. It might be purchasing a bicycle so a pastor can travel between several congregations to minister. Maybe paying for a well or for building materials so the basic needs are met in Jesus’ name, thus opening the door to the message of hope in Jesus. There are so many ways to help. And we can all help in small ways. We don’t need to be able to give thousands every month. Even a few dollars can make a big difference when the Lord calls you do give. Maybe you purchase an Arabic Bible every month to be distributed in the Arab world. Just eight dollars can give the Word to someone who has no idea of the reality of the power of God in Christ. It doesn’t take much, but we all need to take the opportunity to give. Be a Silas or Timothy to someone else. You can start today!
