25Sep2009 Acts 13:5

5 When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. John was with them as their helper.

John gets an honorable mention! That’s right. He is a helper and he gets his name in Scripture for that simple job of helping. He is not in the limelight. Maybe he carries their suitcases, or irons their shirts. He is nobody special by the standards of the world. He barely gets noticed in a crowd. He probably sits by himself at the fringes of the room while he tries to blend into the background. That is most of us. Not many people are up front. Most of us are helpers. Helpers have the same reward as those up front, if we are faithful in our helping. You see, God has placed us with gifts and abilities in His body just where we need to be. We must be responsible for carrying out that ministry. If we are faithful in our helping, we will get a great reward, perhaps even greater than the person we see up front. A helper can be more faithful in their helping than a preacher may be in their preaching. The faithfulness is what gets rewarded, not the percentage of face time in front of the cameras. We are called to be faithful like John. So today, be faithful in all you do. Your helping today may be just the difference in someone else’s life that helps them through a difficult time. The help you provide may yield eternal fruit. Never underestimate the power of helping.
