11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
We may not know when Jesus is going to return, but we do know how. The first thing we know is that His return will be visible. The disciples were standing there staring at something. They were not having a group delusional experience. They were not dreaming. They were actually standing there and talking as Jesus rose into the clouds. They followed Him with their eyes. We will be able to see Jesus’ return. This is important because there are those who say that Jesus will return spiritually, or that he returns to us individually when we believe. There are quite a few variations of this non-body return of Jesus. But these two angels state that He will return in the same way He left, rising without the normal physical limitations on His physical body. We also know that Jesus will have a physical body when He returns. The angels say that this same Jesus with whom they were talking would return. Part of that sameness is Jesus physical body. When He rose from the grave he told His disciples to touch his physical body so that they would know it was Him. He did not simply say “trust me” when he wanted to prove it was He. He wanted to demonstrate that His body was real like theirs. He ate food with them and said only people with physical bodies eat like this. He would not be the same if He were different. If He was just a vision, or some type of Casper creature, He would not be the same. But the angels say that the same Jesus would return. Now why is this important? During the End Times there will be some who will claim to be Jesus, the Messiah, the Savior. They will even be able to do some pretty amazing things, things that appear supernatural. Many people will believe what their eyes are seeing and follow these deceivers. But we know the truth. Jesus will return physically descending from the sky and we will be able to see Him. He will have an actual physical body that can be touched. I don’t know the logistics of His return, I certainly don’t know the timing of His return, but I do know that He will return. His resurrection happened. He rose from that grave. His tomb was empty. He appeared to hundreds of people. He interacted and ate with His disciples. He will return.
