8 Then they remembered his words.

How many of us have been told something very directly and yet we still don’t seem to understand? Teenagers have this happen to them all the time. Husbands do as well. These women who approach the tomb where Jesus’ body had been placed had this experience. Jesus had repeatedly told them he was going to die. He spelled it out clearly and directly on several different occasions. And yet with all that clarity, they seem to have missed the point. Finally, some women who missed the point! It happens so rarely, that I have to take note of it. We are not told what they understood about those words prior to His resurrection. We don’t know if they put a particular spin on His words or whether they just went in one ear and out the other. We do know they did not understand His words they way He meant them to understand them. So when it happens, they are still puzzled trying to figure it out. We write user’s manuals for all appliances. There are even people who write these types of manuals. That is there job, to make them understandable. I love the ones that are written by people from other countries. Their translations are wonderful. You have to really stretch to figure out what they meant to say. These women had no language barrier. They knew the language and culture. They even knew the speaker personally. They had been present at all the major events in his life. They traveled with him, providing support. But let us not be too hard on these women. When they tell the men what has happened, they don’t get it either. Only two of them run to the tomb to confirm their report. But they are not sure what it means either. Next time something unexpected happens, take a moment to hear from the Spirit. Perhaps it will make sense if you are actively listening to His voice.
