34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

I was driving my car the other day behind a minivan. I am sure you have been in a similar situation. This car was weaving back and forth across the lanes of traffic. They would get half way into the other lane on this four lane road and then suddenly snap back into their lane only to drift into the shoulder. This lasted for about five miles. Cars passed and almost got sideswiped as this driver was oblivious to other vehicles. They avoided at least three accidents, but barely avoided. So I took the law into my own hands. I pulled up next to the vehicle, rolled down my window, honked my horn repeatedly in order to get the driver’s attention. Then I gave the driver the “hang up the phone” signal and moved on. The driver did hang up the phone and miraculously their driving instantly improved. They were able to stay in their lane. I’m not sure what the conversation was about, but I can tell you that this driver was more connected to the conversation than they were to driving their vehicle. They valued the person on the other end of the phone more than they valued the other drivers on the road. I knew where their treasure was, and I wanted it to be focused on the kids riding bicycles and walking along the edge of this busy road. Jesus has much to say about money. Money is a barometer of our relationship to the Lord. Where we invest our funds on a day by day basis indicates where our heart is. If all our funds go toward pleasing ourselves, then our hearts are self-absorbed. Where does your money go? How much are you giving in obedience to the Lord? Is it given to build the new gym at the church so that your kids have some place warm to play? Or are you giving to some missions organizations from which you will get absolutely no personal benefit? Where your money goes, that is where your heart is. Jesus wants us to have a heart focused where His heart is focused. His heart’s focus brought Him from the courts of heaven to earth to die a brutal death so that we might experience life. He gave everything so that we might be restored to a right relationship with God.
