9 This is the account of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God.
These are words you can take to the bank and cash! They have value. Can you imagine actually meeting a person who was righteous, blameless and intimate with God? The first thing that you would notice about Noah was the fact they he always did the right thing. There were never any shady dealings or ‘colorful’ stories about him. He never did anything in Vegas that had to stay in Vegas. In fact, he didn’t even do things behind closed doors that would be considered bad. His family respected him because he was consistently doing the right thing. If witnesses were brought against him in a trial, they would have nothing to say. Even God considered him a ‘chip off the Old Block.” His neighbors and friends were never wronged by his attitudes or actions. I wish I always did the right things when others were involved. I wish I could go back in time and take back some words spoken, some looks looked, and some silence manipulated. I think there are fewer of these things being done at this present moment in my life, but it was not always so. Sometimes I let my tongue get the better of me. Sometimes I let my tongue express the sin that was in my heart instead of taking the sin to God in repentance. And of course that sin has caused me to not walk as closely to God as God Himself desired me to walk. More often than I want to admit, there is a distance, created by my sinful choices, that keeps me from experiencing the fullness of God’s presence in my life. I miss out on the whole purpose of life here on earth for the sake of some unconfessed sin. I trade the gold standard for rotten banana peels. Noah knew how to live and this verse is the summary of a life well lived.
