4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.
In this last chapter of the Scriptures we get a glimpse of heaven. It looks very much like the glimpse of the Garden of Eden described in the first chapters of the Scriptures. Abundance is the order of the day. Every need is fulfilled. Every consequence of disobedience by Adam and Eve is removed. The result of our own disobedience is wiped away. There is no curse! We will be restored to the original design. We are sent back to the factory to be rebuilt according to the original specifications. And as a result of all sin being removed we are able to see God face to face. Since the Fall sin has always stood in the way of uninhibited access to God. Sin created a barrier preventing our approach. But in heaven, nothing prevents our approach. And we will all be acknowledged as His children. His name will be on us. He will welcome us into His presence. As I enjoyed time with my five month old grandson this past week I marveled at how he looked at my face. He delighted when I was close enough for him to reach out and grab my nose. His eyes light up with delight and pleasure as he gently bumped my lips with his small hand. And I delighted as well! What a privilege to hold and cherish him. What a delight to have my children and son-in-law here, to look at them and be close, to hear their laughter and conversations. I have seen them almost weekly using Skype, but to have them here face to face was indescribably wonderful. I would not trade anything for these memories. A perfect Christmas holiday! Heaven will be one perfect holiday after another, uninterrupted access to those we love and who love us. Nothing will stand in the way of our reaching out and touching.
