11 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war.
Justice requires perspective. Justice so often does not happen in this world. I think of the sibling fight where a toy is taken and the parent enters and punishes the offender. But there is probably, or should I say usually, much more to the story. Child B got punished for taking the toy, but Child A took the toy first, perhaps smashing Child B in the head repeatedly in the process causing all the noise that brought the parent into the room in the first place. But the parent only saw Child B’s actions. Justice requires perspective! In the Western legal tradition witnesses can be called by each side. This might bring in greater objectivity by bringing in additional perspective. Of course the questions and answers are often carefully coached and rehearsed in order to stay truthful, but only say things that support the side they are representing. Questions during examination carefully avoid areas of weakness in their testimony so that on cross examination those areas cannot be probed. Justice requires perspective. In this age of video surveillance, there is often greater perspective with real-time footage of the event. But that footage often complicates the picture as well, raising more questions than it answers. This rider on the white horse is Jesus. When He enters the scene He is able to bring eternal perspective to justice. He has complete knowledge of every event. He even knows the thoughts and intents of each person’s heart. He is in a unique place to bring justice. The full truth will come out. No lies will be allowed to stand. Every piece of evidence will be presented. Justice will be served. This will be a scary time for those whose sins are not forgiven.
