19Dec2008 Rev 16:15

15 “Behold, I come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed.”

The message of this verse is simple: don’t get involved in any activity that would cause you embarrassment when you get caught. The Governor of Illinois is facing this reality at this present moment. Something he never thought would come to the light is in broad daylight, open for all to see. This verse uses sexual sins as an example of something to avoid. We need to “keep our pants on”, or in the language of today, “keep it zipped.” This does not apply simply to sexual sins, even though these are rampant with the cancerous spread of internet porn even among Christians. Keep it zipped. This means not only literally, but mentally and emotionally as well. There is no place in the life of a Jesus-follower for drifting of this nature. Our lives are to be lives of discipline and discipleship. Jesus’ return will be unexpected for those who think they can get away with sin. Self-deception insulates an individual from the truth. Any area that we allow ourselves to drift into sin is an area that will cause us to feel shamefully exposed when Jesus returns. This might be in the area of finances, like the latest investor Ponzy scheme bilking billions from investors. Maybe it is the way that you discipline your children when the house doors are closed. Or the way you talk to your spouse when the sparks start to fly. What would people think of you and your relationship with Jesus if video tapes of those interactions were placed on Youtube? Someday Heaventube will be broadcasting, and we don’t want to get caught acting shamefully. So that means we need to start living our stated beliefs. So, if you are feeling a little bit exposed after reading this today, turn to the God who put clothes on the first naked people, Adam and Eve. He will bring restoration in your life.
