11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”
What a statement of hope! No artificially inflated superstar status here. God is the genuine article. He doesn’t need a PR team, focus groups, poll results, internet fundraising, community organizing, grassroots support, lopsided media coverage, or poorly chosen competition. God stands alone. He is unique. There is no one who even compares to Him. He is in a class of His own. You see, God created all things. Before there was anything, God existed. But God’s interest in what He created did not stop after He finished shaping and forming at creation. His will is imprinted on every aspect of creation itself and He continues to imprint His creation with His mark. Again we hear the inhabitants of heaven proclaiming the character of God. God is worthy! That means that His being and character are ‘worth’ all the glory, honor and power that He has. If we could set up a scale, put God’s being and character on one side, then put all glory, honor and power on the other side, God’s side would weigh more than the other side. We could never outweigh God with our offerings of glory, honor or power. God is worth every bit of our worship and the worship of everything in creation. When we bow down low before Him and offer ourselves to Him, He deserves what we give Him. Unlike earthly rulers who are broken and sinful, not really worthy of any adulation because even their relative goodness is a gift from God, our Lord and God does deserve being lifted up and exalted. Earthly recipients owe their very existence to God, and as such can never boast about what they have or do. Only One who exists within Himself can boast, but boasting for that individual is not needed. All earthly boasting is empty wind, unless it is boasting about God Himself. Then the boasting has content, because God Himself has content. Who or what is the object of your boasting?
