25 Only hold on to what you have until I come.

Sometimes the best you can do is to just hold on! That is the spiritual advice the Lord gave to the Jesus-followers at Thyatira through the Apostle John. They were in a community of believers that were very far from the truth. They had not only wandered, they had jumped headlong into error. They were openly involved in sexual immorality with no signs of godly sorrow or repentance. They were happy in their sin and nothing could bring them back, or so it seemed. This was not a body of believers that were involved in some small, almost insignificant errors. They were not fighting about the use of choruses in worship, or the use of instruments or multimedia. They were not even fighting over a particular translation of the Bible. Their errors hit at the core of the Gospel. Their sexual sins were tied to their message. It was as if they were preaching a message that made sex a central part of the Gospel itself. Their sexual practices became part of their worship, part of the liturgy, part of the order of worship. And out of that error they claimed to have gained some new knowledge. A famous TV personality has claimed to have gotten some new knowledge that “opened her eyes” to a bigger god who accepts all religions as equal. And she has become one of the riches people in the world along the way. Her message is not primarily religious in the traditional sense, but slowly she has been preaching a morality and ethic that deviates in fundamental ways from Truth. Sometimes the best we can do is hold on. There might be no way we can change the course of what is happening. Perhaps the sins are so great that we don’t have the power to change the direction, but we can hold on to the Truth. Most of us are not in this type of situation, but a few are. Do everything you can to change your world for Christ, then hold on, because Jesus is coming back. He is returning, but as He promised, and He never fails on a promise.
