33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.
I want to start a new series on TV, “Mega Interventions.” These are the kinds of faith stories we want Hollywood to make into movies! Lots of action, special effects, and a little romance thrown in for ratings. Wow, God is good! He sure knows how to demonstrate His power and presence at just the right moments in history. But most of the times mentioned in the Scriptures, God is not whooping up on the enemies of His people. Most of the time, God seems silent. When you think about it, there is an awful lot of silent periods in the Scriptures. Whole lifetimes pass with only the mention of a birth and death. Granted, the Scriptures could not contain all that God did down through history, but the big “Mega Interventions” are few and far between. This sure looks like our lives, doesn’t it. There are a few big interventions, and many, many small ones that would never make it into a script, not enough action. But I want to encourage you to look for those small, barely noticeable interventions of God. If you get your spiritual eyes tuned to noticing God’s subtle actions, you would see His hand everywhere, because He is moving in the events of human existence in order to draw us to Himself. Look for His hand. Look for those answers to prayer. Oh, that would require us to pray and actually believe God hears and answers. And too often our prayers are simply a quick rest stop on the interstate of our own efforts. When God does not immediately intervene in a “Mega” way, we give up and take matters into our own hands, mistakenly thinking that God is not moving, that He doesn’t care or have the time or power to be involved in our lives. We think, maybe God only has time for the really big things, or for someone’s problems. So we don’t look for God’s answers. They could be right in front of our eyes, and we miss them. Why don’t you give God a chance to show up today. Look for Him. Those who seek Him, find Him.
