22Sep2008 Heb 7:25

25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

Don’t you just hate going to the doctor’s office and finding out that the doctor who you trust, who knows all about your medical history, that doctor is not there anymore! You have to start all over with someone else. My wife had the best experience the other day. When her new doctor walked in the room he had already read her chart and knew her history! What a difference that little bit of care and concern meant. Now I am not saying that every new doctor my wife has received has had this level of concern. On the contrary, that is what makes this one experience so extraordinary. This doctor did demonstrate care and concern by taking time to understand my wife. I have repeatedly heard a very different story from some parents with special needs kids. It seems like they never get the same doctor again, so they are always educating their doctors about the nuances of their children, past treatments that didn’t work, complications along the way, emergency room visits and intensive care stays. There is almost a desperation that can be seen. The movie As Good As It Gets tells the story of a child with asthma whose care has been much less than what was needed. His mother does not have a life because she lives in a constant state of vigilance. When she finally gets a doctor who is able to really take care of her son, there is a visible relief and overwhelming joy. He orders the right tests and follows up on the results. Because Jesus will never go to a different job, there is no need to reeducate Him each time we have a need. He knows our history intimately. He knows every sorrow and joy, every slip and every triumph. And He is there for us, lifting up our needs, cares and concerns. So as we pray about that chronic illness or handicap, He knows exactly what we are talking about. He was there in the emergency room with us while life teetered in the balance. He knows those pains that have been buried for years. We can go to Him with everything, because He has and will always be there for us.
