12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
It is so important to have someone in your life that is an example for you to follow. When we have someone we can observe doing the right thing in difficult circumstances, it makes it easier for us to know what to do when we ourselves are struggling. It encourages us when we see that person make the right choice, the godly choice, the choice of obedience. We see them enjoying the fulfillment of the promises of God in their lives. They are sitting in the bowl of the fruit of the Spirit. They are covered in peace. They are encouraging to be around, because you can sense God’s presence with them. But our tendency is when things get a little tough to slack off, to drop the ball, to ease up in our spiritual pursuits. I find that this blog provides an extra discipline to my spiritual journey that was not there before. And that is one of the main reasons I began blogging. I wanted to add an extra measure of discipline to my established routine. What is your spiritual discipline routine? Hit & miss, on again, off again? Well, I want to encourage you to pick it up and stay with it. Yes, there will be days when it is inconvenient to spend those minutes alone with the Word. The rush of life, the busyness, or the business can push God to the side, force your priorities to shift slowly away from where they need to be to survive and inherit the promises of God. Laziness is easy; trust me I know. Discipline is hard work. But the rewards of discipline far outweigh the momentary pleasures of laziness. The promises are worth the effort of self-discipline. I want to encourage you to start today, to be faithful today. Make today the start of a new discipline in your spiritual walk with Jesus.
