14 Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
Some people place angels much higher in value than God does. For God, angels are simply an agent of His will, a tool He uses to accomplish His purpose in our lives. People don’t turn into angels when they die. Angels don’t show up every minute to make you a cup of coffee. The intervention of angels in human lives seems fairly rare as we look a Scripture. Angels seem to show up when judgment is going to take place, both to carry out the judgment and to rescue the righteous. Sometimes they show up to announce history changing events. Sometimes they deliver a specific message to an individual to move salvation history forward. But they don’t show up very often. But they do show up occasionally and when they do, they are here doing God’s job for our benefit. The writer to the Hebrews wants us to know that angels are lower in importance in God’s plan than we are. And if they are lower than us, then they are certainly lower than the Son. That is the point of the whole book of Hebrews. Jesus is better than! Better than saints, or Jesus’ mother. If there is a need to talk to someone of importance about the things that are going on in life, Jesus is the one to whom you should speak. If needed, He has angels on call to meet that need. Talking to anyone less is just a waste of time. And if Jesus is the important one, then looking for angels to show up is also a waste of time. If they are sent, so be it. But we should not spend our days wondering if that stranger who helped was an angel. If they were, then glory to God. If they weren’t, then I hope you thanked them. They were reflecting the character of God, knowingly or unknowingly. Look for God moments today.
