17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
This is the kind of God we need, but not necessarily the kind of God we want. That may sound strange, but this kind of God is one that gets into our business, actually who makes everything His business. There is no area of life that can be hidden. Everything is in His sight. That is a scary thing. He won’t become obsolete next year and have to be traded in on a new model. He won’t change His standards to ones that are more in line with our sinfulness, our selfish desires or our temporary wants. Solid rock steady! That is scary because we can’t weasel out of our sin. He was there then and will be there when it comes time to give an account. Despite what the media and many religious bodies are proclaiming, there is only one God, and He has chosen to reveal Himself in and through the Scriptures. There are many gods, but only one eternal, immortal, invisible God to whom we have the privilege of giving honor and glory. He is unique, in fact, uniqueness was invented by Him. He never had a beginning and will never have an end. There was never a time when He did not exist, in fact, even before time existed, He was there. I like the fact the He is invisible as well. He can be there with me in any and every circumstance and not get in the way of those who deny His existence. He can show up without prior reservation or advanced notice. He can show up even when those around you are His enemies. In fact He is always present! Now that can be a scary thought if you deceive yourself into thinking you can get away with sin. But it can be a very comforting thought when you need forgiveness and are ready to receive it.
