20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,
God has a different measuring stick than we do. He measured out the universe, after all. He also measured the smallest atomic particles. But when it comes to working in and through the only created beings that bare His image, does He pick up a small, limited measuring tool? Of course not! The crowning jewel of His creation doesn’t receive leftovers or factory seconds. The work is not designed and imagined in the wee hours of the night when His thoughts are of sleep. This is not an additional duty that is tacked on to God’s job description to be done after every ‘important’ task is completed. No, this is central to God’s reason for creating the universe in the first place. He delights in demonstrating to us His greatness. He enjoys amazing us with the immeasurability of what he does. When that grandeur is seen, we respond in worship. But the second half of this verse continues to sound a call to hope. God’s power, not our power, is the one that is working in us! That same power that created the universe with a word from His mouth is the power that He is going to use in us. Do you think that your life is too messed up for God to straighten out? Are the challenges to great for God to make a way through them? Have you fallen so far that He can’t reach you? Remember it is His measure and His power, not yours. There is no such word as “too far” in God’s vocabulary. You will never hear the words “I’m too tired to help out” come from God’s mouth. So no matter the circumstance you are facing today, God is able to reaching into our situations and work mightily. Are you willing to let God take control and bring about something spectacular?
