18 may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,
Once you are rooted and established in love, then the superstructure can be built. As we talked about yesterday, the roots are the key to successful plants. And for the Jesus-follower, our connection the Jesus is the key. For when we are rooted and established in Him, then we can have the power we need to really experience the love of Jesus. God’s love for us is so great that we must be changed by His power before we can even begin to understand that love. Our capacity to understand must be expanded by the power of God. Infants love the simple game peek-a-boo. They can be amused by it for hours. The reason they do is still only a matter of theory, but the theory says that infants don’t have the ability to imagine things that are not in their sight. When something is not it their sight, it does not exist. This is the ultimate out of sight, out of mind. So each time you hind behind your hands, you go out of existence. It is only as they grow that infants begin to understand that there is a world beyond their world, that parents are permanent, that their toys will be there the next day, that when mom walks away, she still exists. Their minds have to grow in order for them to understand what we as adults take for granted. So it is with the love of God. New believers need God’s power active in their lives to transform them so that they can have the capacity to understand the full scope of Jesus’ love. This is not something that comes naturally. It takes the power of God working in their lives for this transformation to take place. Some people start this process and then stop growing in their capacity to understand the love of God. They get enough understanding to walk a shallow walk of faith, but never get to the depths of that love. They are content to sit in the kiddie pool and dangle their feet. But there are great depths of God’s love to be explored and experienced. The is enough love to fulfill the greatest desires in life, to heal the greatest hurts that an individual can experience. If you feel in need of love today, ask God for His power to transform you even more so that your capacity for love increases. Then there will be no lack of love.
