9 and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.
We are to become human light bulbs shining the light of God to the universe! We are plugged into His current and He shines through us. Another way to view this is that we are just gas-filled vessels through whom God shines. There is nothing special about the contents of the light bulb except that it responds to the current passed through it and light results. When God passes through a person yielded to His Spirit something in us responds and is activated. We are created in His image, the Scriptures say. When He passes through us, that image responds and lights up. The light produced is not a result of the vessel itself. If that were true, it would have been emitting light all along. Instead, it is simply responding to the current passing through. The world wants to try to produce a current of its own. The mantras resound: if we could just all get along, get more education, increase opportunity, level the playing field, remove the corruption of wealth, provide healthcare for all, then our problems would be solved. But momentary firework displays don’t provide enough light to make reading a book possible, let alone lighting a city street, or providing illumination into the depths of the human heart. All our attempts to provide current fall short of our potential. That truth was hidden at the fall. The fall was about Adam and Eve seeking their own way to satisfy the deepest longings of their hearts without relationship with God. Of course they failed as every other human being has failed. Paul’s job was to make it plain that there Jesus crossed all human boundaries in order to bring salvation to mankind. Jesus reached to everyone and Paul wanted to shine that truth, to broadcast it for everyone to see, understand and embrace. How brightly are you shining that message of total acceptance to your world? Maybe the bulb needs some cleaning. Maybe the connection to the power supply needs to be tightened. Maybe now is the time to really let go and shine His light rather than trying to polish your own halo.
