1It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
There is the possibility of giving up the freedom we have in Jesus. We can choose to be ruled by the old way of life or by some new set of rules. But the purpose of Jesus death and resurrection is to free us, from sin, from bondage to the past, from directionless living, from missing the abundance of walking in the presence of God. The sad part of this freedom is that so many Jesus-followers never experience it. Because Satan has done his job so well, the culture in which we live has so thoroughly indoctrinated us, and sin is still attractive, we don’t realize that we are blind and deaf to the things of God. We listen to the music around us and get lulled into apathy, unable to distinguish the subtle variations in melodies. Pretty soon we think all music is the same, that there is no difference between what God has to offer and what others have to offer. Our ears spend so much time listening to the melodies of Satan that we get accustomed to their grating dissonances. We think off-key is the way music is supposed to be played, that independent rhythms and tempos are better than everyone playing in synchronous unity. This is what happens when we stop listening to the Spirit. We forget the beauty of His melody. We forget the rapture of the message. If your life seems to be off-key today, perhaps it is time to get quiet before Jesus and ask Him to retune our spiritual IPOD to His music.
