49 And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven.
Just as we have the image of the dust of the earth evident in our lives, so some day we will have the image of Jesus evident fully in our lives. We are literally made of dust. Remember science class, you are at least 50% water, infants are about 70% water. The rest of you is just minerals, dust of all different kinds. And even with inflation you aren’t worth that much. Your basic minerals are only worth about $4.50. But according to Indiana University School of Medicine, if you were willing to sell off all your body parts you are worth over $45 million! I digress! We bear a similarity to the dust of the earth at this point. In fact if you let a body decay it makes great food for bugs and the soil. Our bodies simply melt back into the earth over time. When the resurrection takes place, our bodies will resemble Jesus’ body after His resurrection. Jesus’ new heavenly body, like the body we will someday get, was not bound by the everyday laws of physics that we think are so concrete. He was able to appear in rooms with the doors locked. He was able to disappear suddenly. He was able to eat fish and share a meal. His voice sounded the same, He had the same face, but somehow in their shock and turmoil they didn’t notice. He had all his memories of what he and others had done. He worked to get Peter reconciled with his past and his future. So much was the same and yet so different. His new body won’t die, suffer, break, or wear out. And guess what, we will get a body like that when we die. There are many misconceptions about heaven floating around in our society. The only way to get to the reality is through the Word. I want to encourage you to not listen to the latest incarnation of an old lie. There is only one way to heaven. There is truth and there are falsehoods. Not everyone is going to heaven. But for us who know the Truth, Jesus, there is heaven and a new existence, a new image filled with life and light. We will participate with the Creator of the universe in His world. I can’t wait!
