5 What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task.
The more we look to people, the more we get our eyes off Jesus. The best churches are the ones where you can’t remember the name of the pastor, only the message of the Savior. Our job as Jesus Followers is simply to connect people to Jesus. Every glance at us is a glance wasted. We are just screwdrivers and hammers, wireless mice and monitors, curling irons and eyelash tweezers. We each have a wonderful mission to accomplish, one given by Jesus through the Holy Spirit, one tailor made for your unique gifts and abilities, and one that we can do in a way that gets people’s eyes off us and onto Jesus. The happiest times in my life have been those where I was functioning on all cylinders, where my gifts and abilities were being fully utilized, right on mission. The worst times were when I was outside my lane, on someone else’s mission. Find your assigned task and stick to it. There will be resistance and hardship when you are on mission, but there will also be eternal results and the inner sense that you are where you are supposed to be. The Spirit will confirm that with His presence and power. Do you sense that presence and power? If not, take time to stop, look, and listen for the Voice. When you hear it, move toward His voice. Where it is the loudest, that is the center of God’s will for your life. And when you are there, all eyes will be on Him, including your own.
