13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.
Congruency of communication. One feature on Fox News O’Reilly Factor is the body language segment where he has an expert examine the body language of an individual to see if their audible words match their body language. These are normally things that we don’t pay attention to on a conscious level, but which we read every day. We are in a conversation and the person keeps looking away. Do they really care about you? Your husband is watching the ball game, and he is saying “Uh ha” to everything you say, is he listening to you? You question your child about the missing cookies, and they keep looking away and changing the subject, believable? But it is more than just body language. Would you trust Former President Bill Clinton with your intern? Actions play into this communication equation as well, especially as followers of Jesus. Our words, our non-verbal’s, and our actions all need to be sending the same message. Paul said that his message was Spirit words and Spirit method, both the content and the delivery vehicle. If we talk about the transformational power of Jesus’ death and resurrection, then we had better say it with congruent verbal and non-verbal, and with our lives. We must be partakers of that transformational power. Our lives must be changed in order for us to really present the message. Otherwise people, especially young people, will see right through the plastic veneer.
