2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.
When we lived in Germany as a U.S. military member, we were bound by a certain set of rules that placed certain restrictions on our activities. It also gave us certain privileges. We did not pay $4.00 a gallon for gas, we only paid the going rate in the U.S., which at the time was under $2.00. By the way, it has rising to almost $8.00 a gallon now. I am glad to be paying only $3.00. You see, the Germans put very high taxes on gasoline in order to discourage driving cars, using public transportation instead. But we were not bound to pay those taxes. In fact, now that I am again living in the States, I don’t have to pay those taxes either. Because of my special status, the tax laws did not affect me. The same is true in my spiritual life. The law of sin and death, that law that effects everyone born and brings with it separation for God, no longer applies to my life as a Christ follower. I now live under Christ-follower laws. I will not get the punishment the old set of laws imposed. Instead, I get the freedom and life of the new set. I would much rather live in life than be shackled with death. How about you? You can choose to live under the new set and get its benefits. What is your decision?
