Romans 6:19

19 I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.

You gotta serve somebody! None of us is really our own boss. For most of us, we work for a company who places over us a supervisor. They have various degrees of influence on our behaviors. If we do not meet those expectations, we get fired. They are the boss. If we own our own business, we serve our customers. If we don’t, we go out of business. In a family, various members serve in various roles that serve the family. Spiritual maturity involves finding our place of service and serving there. It involves serving eternal values and principles not temporary ones. Both services take effort and both take sacrifice. The difference is in the rewards, both now and in eternity. Serve for the lasting reward, serve God, not your own selfish ambitions and desires.
