Do you know what a paradox is? No, I don’t mean two wooden structures in water to which boats are tied. I mean a statement that seems contradictory, but is true just the same. Paul tells us to ‘think about it’ as he points out our frequent habit of double-standard thinking. The old illustration of finger pointing comes to mind. If we point at others, we have more fingers pointing back at ourselves. And yet we continue to point fingers of judgment at others. Ouch! We all, sometimes subtly, sometimes overtly, enter into finger pointing in judgment. A look of ‘I would never do that’, a whisper under the breath, a ‘I won’t dignify that with a response’, or an out and out childhood ‘My dad’s stronger than your dad.’ Every time we enter into this kind of judgment, we are negating God’s grace in our lives. When we don’t think about our attitudes and actions, we become mindless zombies, wandering through a dark world on a single mission to find life and destroy it. That is why we must be mindful, full of the mind, always thinking, always aware of the impact our attitudes and actions have on our relationship to God and others. Think about it!
